3 units of CEC/CU

This course provides a foundational understanding of key chronic health conditions that significantly impact long-term health and quality of life. Participants will explore cardiovascular disease, with a focus on heart disease and stroke, gaining insight into underlying risk factors, prevention strategies, and lifestyle influences on heart health.

The course also examines metabolic syndrome, arthritis, and chronic inflammation, highlighting how these interconnected conditions affect the body and contribute to disease progression. Emphasis is placed on understanding inflammation as a common thread and recognizing opportunities for supportive lifestyle and behavior change.

In addition, participants will learn to interpret lipid abnormalities and lipid panel results, building confidence in understanding cholesterol markers and their relevance to cardiovascular and metabolic health. While not diagnostic in nature, this course equips learners with the knowledge to have informed, supportive conversations and to better guide individuals toward heart-healthy, inflammation-reducing choices.

This course is ideal for health professionals, coaches, and wellness practitioners seeking to strengthen their understanding of cardiometabolic health and apply this knowledge in client-centered, educational, and preventative contexts.

Upon completion of this program, the coach will be able to:

  1. Describe the primary types of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, and explain their common risk factors.

  2. Explain the components of metabolic syndrome and how they contribute to cardiovascular risk and chronic disease.

  3. Identify the role of chronic inflammation in arthritis, metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease.

  4. Recognize lifestyle and behavioral factors that influence cardiometabolic health and inflammatory processes.

  5. Interpret basic lipid panel markers (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides) and identify common lipid abnormalities.

  6. Explain how lipid abnormalities are associated with cardiovascular and metabolic health risks.

  7. Apply foundational knowledge to support informed, non-diagnostic conversations with clients about heart health, inflammation, and risk reduction.
  8. Differentiate between education, coaching support, and clinical diagnosis within scope of practice.
