3 units of CEC/CU
This course provides health and wellness coaches with foundational knowledge and practical coaching applications related to overweight and obesity, BMI and waist circumference, healthy weight, optimal nutrition and hydration, and physical activity and sedentary behavior. Participants explore how weight-related measures are used in healthcare settings and how to discuss them ethically, sensitively, and within scope of practice.
Emphasis is placed on supporting client awareness, autonomy, and sustainable behavior change, rather than weight-centric or prescriptive approaches. Coaches learn to facilitate strengths-based conversations around nutrition, movement, hydration, and daily habits while honoring individual values, cultural context, and lived experience. This course supports NBC-HWCs in promoting health-enhancing behaviors aligned with NBHWC competencies and standards of practice.
Upon completion of this program, the coach will be able to:
- Describe key concepts related to overweight, obesity, BMI, and waist circumference using evidence-informed, non-diagnostic language.
- Explain the benefits and limitations of BMI and waist circumference as health indicators.
- Identify foundational principles of healthy nutrition, hydration, physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior.
