This course provides health and wellness coaches with foundational knowledge and coaching applications related to stress and emotional health, tobacco avoidance, moderate or no alcohol use, and substance misuse awareness. Participants explore how chronic stress, emotional well-being, and substance use behaviors influence overall health, while learning how to address these topics ethically, compassionately, and within the scope of health and wellness coaching.
The course emphasizes client-centered, strengths-based approaches that support awareness, self-regulation, and sustainable behavior change. Coaches learn to facilitate supportive conversations, recognize when referral is appropriate, and integrate stress management and healthy coping strategies that align with NBHWC competencies and standards of practice.
Upon completion of this program, the coach will be able to:
- Describe the relationship between stress, emotional health, and overall well-being.
- Explain the health impacts of tobacco use, alcohol use, and substance misuse using evidence-informed, non-diagnostic language.
- Identify common stressors and coping behaviors that influence health-related choices.
