This highly experiential training strengthens core health and wellness coaching competencies with an emphasis on coaching presence, ethical engagement, transformative questioning, reflective listening, and scope of practice. Participants engage in lecture, demonstration, structured peer practice, and live mentoring feedback to deepen skill integration and professional confidence.

Grounded in NBHWC Content Areas 1 (Coaching Presence, Relationships, and Sessions), 3 (Skills, Tools, and Strategies), and 4 (Ethics and Professional Practice), this course supports coaches in cultivating presence, enhancing relational depth, applying transformative coaching questions appropriately, and maintaining clear ethical boundaries. Participants leave with practical tools and a personalized action plan for continued professional growth.

 Upon completion of this program, the coach will be able to:

  1. Apply transformative coaching questions appropriately based on client context and readiness.

  2. Use reflective listening techniques to deepen client awareness and insight.

  3. Facilitate client exploration of challenging situations using strengths-based and client-led strategies.

  4. Integrate feedback from peers and mentor observation to refine coaching skills in real time.

  5. Develop a personal professional growth action plan aligned with ethical and competency standards.

Course Overview

Session 1

  • Fundamentals of being present:  Lecture and experiential exercise - 40 minutes
  • Small group discussion - 20 minutes

Session 2

  • Awareness practices that promote ethical client engagement - Lecture - 25 minutes
  • Small group discussion - 35 minutes

Session 3

  • Transformative coaching questions (when and how to use them): - Lecture - 15 minutes
  • Participant poll (rate most challenging coaching situations) - 5 minutes
  • Coaching presentation on challenging situation using transformative coaching questions - 25 minutes
  • Q&A - 10 minutes

Section 4

  • Coaching reflections: Lecture - 10 minutes
  • Small group practice exercise - 20 minutes

Session 5

  • Peer practice and live mentoring support: - Total of 1 hour
    • Practice coaching sessions (3 peer practice coaching session @ 15 minutes each) 
    • Peer debrief and mentor feedback (3 @ 5 minutes each)

 Session 6

  • What coaching is not - Small group activity - 15 minutes

Session 7

  • Takeaways and action plan
    • Awareness action plan:   Writing and dyad sharing - 15 minutes
    • Takeaway survey poll and completion - 5 minutes
